Description of the day
Just a short bus ride from
Florence and you will find yourself in one of the most relaxing and
historical spots of the Florence region.
We’re only
6 miles from Florence but that is enough to get beyond the bustle and noise
of the city.
The morning walk is in a park
area. Dark green cypress trees surround us during our comfortable ascent. We
will amble past
some ancient quarries where the Pitti Palace stones where
taken. The 16th century Florentines
efficiently as skilled 21st century technicians. Word of geologist!
At the top an inscribed pillar
recalls Leonardo da Vinci's "flight" experiment. The view over Florence is
sublime, this is what must have
inspired Leonardo in choosing a proper spot.
It's lunch time now in
Fiesole... take a look at the colorful setting of the tables in the picture
below
and the flavors of the food are even
better than the colors of the decor!
The afternoon is a city walk,
strolling around the Etruscan walls (still there 2500 years ago!) and the
Medici family's villas. Now most of them are the seats of international
universities. They'll nicely let us visit the giardini all'italiana
(Italian style gardens).
Back to the centre of Fiesole we
can sit and relax and talk about the active day we spent together. |
